Regulation of V-ATPase by reversible disassembly of V1 and V0 components. Reversible disassembly might be triggered by phosphorylation by kinases, like protein kinase A, or this may be regulated by signaling lipids. The H-subunit blocks ATP hydrolysis by the free V1 and the V0 does not serve as a proton channel without the presence of V1.
