See the positions in the pyrrole ring and the respective chemical state: N1 (C–NH–C), C2 (C=CH–N), C3 (C=CH–C), C4 = C3, and C5 = C2. In ethylene glycol, C and O have only one chemical state, which are C–CH2O and C–O–H, respectively.
