Neck Flexion Induces Larger Deformation of the Brain Than Extension at a Rotational Acceleration, Closed Head Trauma

The model system. The setup is shown with an anaesthetized rabbit in position for exposure to a closed head sagittal rotational acceleration. The arrow points to the glass fiber reinforced plastic helmet, glued to the cranium. A piston, attached to a pneumatic cylinder and driven by compressed air, was used to deliver the force to the moving (golden) arc to which the rabbit head was attached, as was an accelerometer.
