Adipocytes as an Important Source of Serum S100B and Possible Roles of This Protein in Adipose Tissue

Schematic representation of the putative roles of S100B and its secretion in adipocytes. cAMP (e.g., induced by catecholamines—see Table 1) would trigger lipolysis and S100B secretion. The connection between these events remains to be established, as well as a role of S100B in the modulation of glycolysis (?) and in the transport of free fatty acids (?).
