Although it is apparent that the comorbidity of psychiatric and neurological disorders with cardiovascular disorders does not occur by chance, the mechanism of this comorbidity is poorly understood. Undoubtedly, multiple types of interactions between the cardiovascular and the central and peripheral nervous systems are responsible for the pathobiology of disorders investigated by the scientific biological approaches of cardiovascular psychiatry/neurology.

This special issue focuses on innovative proposals for the putative mechanisms of comorbid psychiatric/neurological and cardiovascular disorders.

The authors are invited to present original hypotheses on mechanisms involved in the co-occurrence of psychiatric and neurological disorders with cardiovascular disorders. The presentation of the original hypothesis does not require any new data. The hypothesis should be explicitly stated, the testing of the hypothesis should be detailed including the existing data in support of and against the hypothesis (extensive review of the literature should be avoided), and the implications of the hypothesis should be clearly identified. Submission of supporting figures and tables is encouraged.
