Microbial Enzyme: Applications in Industry and in Bioremediation

Description

The industries are under continuous pressure to use more environmentally friendly finishing processes and to find new methods to make products more competitive on the global market. In this context, microbial enzymes execute a large variety of functions and have important biotechnological applications. They are used as drug targets in the development of new antimicrobial agents. Other applications are directed to the development processes involving enzymes derived from microorganisms focusing on the industry and on bioremediation processes. For many industrial applications, enzymes have to be immobilized, via simple and cost-effective protocols, in order to be reused over very long periods of time. From this point of view, immobilization and stabilization are important tools.

This special issue includes aspects involving industrial processes of enzymes and use of enzymes in bioremediation. We invite investigators to contribute original research articles as well as review articles in this subject. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Industrial applications of microbial enzymes (cosmetic and pharmaceutical industry)
  • Microbial enzymes in bioremediation processes
  • Enzymes from biodiversity: extremophiles and thermophiles
  • Methodology for utilization in biotechnology
  • Immobilization and stabilization of microbial enzymes
  • Reactivation of industrial enzymes after partial inactivation
  • Microbial enzymes as drug target in pharmaceutical industry

Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal's Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/er/guidelines/. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal Manuscript Tracking System at http://mts.hindawi.com/ according to the following timetable:
