Enzymes in Biofuels Production

Description

The attractiveness of biofuels as sustainable, renewable alternative fuels has recently increased. Biofuels are derived from renewable sources and are generally more environment friendly than petroleum fuels, with lower emissions of CO2 and other greenhouse gases. They can displace petroleum fuels and, in many countries, reduce the dependence on imported fuel.

Recently, enzymes have been employed in the production of biofuels to overcome the drawbacks usually associated with the use of conventional chemically catalyzed processes. The special issue covers both basic and applied aspects of using isolated or whole-cell enzymes in the production of all types of biofuels. The issue offers a forum for interdisciplinary elements of biotechnology and biochemical engineering. Manuscripts are welcomed on all aspects of current and potential involvement of enzymes in biofuel production.

It gives us great pleasure to invite researchers to contribute original research articles as well as review articles that will highlight the advantages of using enzymes in biofuels production and the development of enzymatic biofuels production processes. Topics covered by the special issue include, but are not limited to:

  • Advances in genetic modification and enzyme design
  • Recent development in enzyme immobilization and stability enhancement
  • Latest technologies of the enzymatic pretreatment of feedstock for biofuels production
  • Kinetics and mechanism of enzymatic hydrolysis of feedstock materials for biofuel production
  • Latest technologies of the enzymatic production of biofuels
  • Novel enzymatic bioreactors
  • Developments in enzymatic biofuels production processes

Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal's Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/er/guidelines/. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal Manuscript Tracking System at http://mts.hindawi.com/ according to the following timetable:
