Epileptic Encephalopathy in Children with Risk Factors for Brain Damage

Figure 2

This figure shows the MRIs of a male infant born at 36 gestational weeks with PVL. At 2 months of corrected age it was possible to observe in the MRI the presence of diffuse leukomalacia in the occipital regions; the corpus callosum and the lateral ventricles had normal volumes. At 14 months of age the volume of the corpus callosum was very small (less than 2 SD) and the volumes of the lateral ventricles were greater than 2 SD from the norm, and at 32 months the corpus callosum maintains the small volume and the lateral ventricles maintain the great volumes.
