Temporal Lobe Epilepsy in Children

(a) shows 3 consecutive pages of EEG illustrating the onset of a left mesial temporal seizure in a 13-year-old girl with a history of a prolonged febrile convulsion at the age of 18 months (10 microvolts/mm, 15 mm/sec). Her coronal FLAIR MRI (b) shows left mesial temporal sclerosis. Her seizures were intractable to medical therapy, but she became seizure-free after surgery.
