<i>Objective</i>. Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is a chronic autoimmune disease with a high prevalence in females. Published data have identified pregnant women with APS may suffer from recurrent miscarriage, fetal death. However, the association between antiphospholipid antibody (aPL) and fetal growth restriction (FGR) remains controversial. This study aims to systematically review the literature on population-based studies investigating an association between aPL and FGR. <i>Methods</i>. The literature was searched on 1 November, 2021, using Ovid MEDLINE, Embase, and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), following the MOOSE checklist. Study inclusion criteria focused on peer-reviewed published articles that reported an association between aPL and FGR. Quality assessment was performed based on the Newcastle-Ottawa scale. The between-study heterogeneity was assessed by the Q test. Publication bias was assessed by funnel plots. <i>Results</i>. Twenty-two studies (with 11745 pregnant women) were included in the final analysis. Pooled odds ratio for association of aPL, anticardiolipin antibodies (ACA), anti-beta2 glycoprotein 1 antibodies (<i>&#x3b2;</i>2GP1), and FGR was 1.26 (95&#x0025;CI 1.12, 1.40), 2.25 (95&#x0025;CI 1.55, 2.94), and 1.31 (95&#x0025; CI 1.12, 1.49), respectively. Lupus anticoagulant (LA) did not increase the chance of FGR (OR 0.82, 95&#x0025;CI 0.54, 1.10). <i>Conclusions</i>. Our meta-analysis showed that aPL increased the risk of FGR. The risk of FGR varies with the aPL types. ACA and <i>&#x3b2;</i>2GP1 are strongly associated with FGR. There are currently insufficient data to support a significant relationship between LA and FGR.

Antiphospholipid Antibodies Increase the Risk of Fetal Growth Restriction: A Systematic Meta-Analysis

<i>Background</i>. The coronary slow flow phenomenon (CSFP) is an atherosclerotic process that causes ischemia at the microvascular level. The CSFP may affect P wave durations, especially P wave peak time (PWPT), by microvascular ischemia, left ventricular diastolic dysfunction, and changes in the left atrial dimension. Therefore, in the present study, we aimed to assess PWPT in the CSFP. <i>Method</i>. One hundred and ninety-five patients were included in this single-center, retrospective study. Ninety patients were enrolled in the CSFP group and 105 patients in the control group. The mean age of the study population was 48.5 ± 9.5, and 108 (55.3%) of the patients were female. We found PWPT was longer in the CSFP group than in the control group. Correlation analysis showed a positive correlation between PWPT in both leads (<i>D</i><sub>II</sub>, <i>V</i><sub>ı</sub>) and left atrial anterior-posterior diameter, mean TIMI frame count (TFC), and <i>E</i>/<i>e</i>. Prolonged P Wave Peak Time May Be a Sign of LV Diastolic Dysfunction in the Coronary Slow Flow Phenomenon

<i>Objective</i>. To investigate the association between intestinal permeability and severity of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and the value of intestinal permeability in predicting the efficacy of metabolic therapy for NAFLD. <i>Methods</i>. Disease severity was compared between patients with normal and elevated intestinal permeability; correlations between D-lactate and different NAFLD parameters were analyzed; and the effects of metabolic therapy on NAFLD patients with normal and elevated intestinal permeability were evaluated. <i>Results</i>. A total of 190 patients with NAFLD were enrolled. NAFLD patients with elevated intestinal permeability had significantly higher levels of liver test parameters, liver ultrasonographic fat attenuation parameter, triglyceride, homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance value, and diamine oxidase (all P˂0.05) than NAFLD patients with normal intestinal permeability. The Gut-Liver Axis in Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease: Association of Intestinal Permeability with Disease Severity and Treatment Outcomes

<i>Background</i>. The type and amount of dietary fats play an important role in fat accumulation in the liver. Sesame oil (SO) is a good source of monounsaturated acids (MUFAs) and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs). <i>Objective</i>. This trial aimed at examining the effect of SO consumption on the levels of liver enzymes and the severity of fatty liver in women with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) undergoing a weight loss diet. <i>Methods</i>. This randomized, double-blind, controlled trial was carried out on 60 women with NAFLD. Subjects were randomly assigned to the SO group (<i>n</i> = 30) and sunflower oil (SFO) group (<i>n</i> = 30), each person consuming 30 grams of oil per day for 12 weeks. All the participants received a hypocaloric diet (−500 kcal/day) during the study. Fatty liver grade and liver enzymes were assessed at pre- and postintervention phases. <i>Results</i>. 53 patients completed the study. Sesame Oil Ameliorates Alanine Aminotransferase, Aspartate Aminotransferase, and Fatty Liver Grade in Women with Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease Undergoing Low-Calorie Diet: A Randomized Double-Blind Controlled Trial

<i>Background</i>. The association between sarcopenia at admission and mortality in patients with sepsis has not been comprehensively evaluated. We performed a meta-analysis to systematically evaluate the above association. <i>Methods</i>. This meta-analysis included relevant observational studies from Medline, Embase, and Web of Science databases. A random-effect model after incorporation of the intrastudy heterogeneity was selected to pool the results. Subgroup analyses were applied to evaluate the influences of study characteristics on relationship. <i>Results</i>. Ten cohort studies including 2396 patients with sepsis were included, and 1496 (62.4%) of them had sarcopenia at presentation. Sarcopenia and Mortality Risk of Patients with Sepsis: A Meta-Analysis

<i>Background</i>. Psoriasis is linked to atherosclerosis. Homocysteine (HCYS) has been identified as a marker of increased risk of cardio-cerebrovascular diseases (CCVD) in population. <i>Objective</i>. The aim of the study was to determine whether elevated HCYS serves as a marker of increased CCVD in psoriasis and whether biological therapy for long-term monitoring influences HCYS levels. <i>Methods</i>. Clinical data, laboratory tests, and comorbid diagnoses were summarized for the two groups of patients based on entrance HCYS levels. Patients (<i>n</i> = 76) were included in the follow-up gradually over a period of 5 years. <i>Results</i>. The psoriatic patients with normal (54%) and elevated (46%) HCYS before biological treatment did not vary in clinical data, laboratory tests, treatment, and comorbid diagnoses apart from CCVD. An increased CCVD risk, independent of other risk factors, is present in psoriatic patients with elevated HCYS. The HCYS level was not influenced by biological therapy in longitudinal observation. Further studies are needed to explore if elevated HCYS could serve as a marker of increased CCVD in any stage of psoriasis and if it should be included in classical screening strategies.
