Google Earth image showing the homing trips of 8 green sea turtles that were displaced from their breeding site at Glorieuses Is., Eastern Indian Ocean (green dot), to an open-sea release site (yellow diamond), about 150 km away. Red tracks show the routes of turtles that were disturbed in the perception of the Earth’s magnetic field through the application of a magnet on their head. Green tracks refer to undisturbed control turtles. Two turtles failed to return to the home island and moved to Comoros Island or towards Madagascar, while the others homed to Glorieuses, although following very circuitous paths. Data from [55].
