The brains of rats to reach stage 4 or beyond were analysed by TUNEL labeling. Hippocampal injury was graded as follows: (−) no injury; (+) minimal injury (1–20 TUNEL labelled cells); (++) moderate (21–100 TUNEL cells); (+++) high (>100 TUNEL cells). ^∗𝑃<0.05compared to either Homer1a or naïve groups.
