Bidirectionality of eukaryotic MMR. The -nicked (a) and -nicked (b) heteroduplexes are used as model substrate. The shorter path is chosen to remove the mismatched base. The exonuclease activity of EXO1 is required for excision reaction in both - and -nicked heteroduplexes.
