Confocal images of EGFP-tagged native BGT1 or T40A mutant expressed in MDCK cells following hypertonic stress for 5 h. At the end of this period, the cells were fixed and immunostained for furin (red fluorescence), a marker for the trans-Golgi network. BGT1 showed significant localization in the plasma membrane (panel (a)). In contrast, T40A remained intracellular and colocalized with furin (arrows, panels (b) and (c)).
