Fine-Needle Aspiration Biopsy of Hepatocellular Carcinoma and Related Hepatocellular Nodular Lesions in Cirrhosis: Controversies, Challenges, and Expectations

<table>FNA of cirrhosis. Hyperplastic hepatocytes occur in 2-cell thick cords with closely adherent bile ductule. The polygonal hepatocytes exhibit cellular polymorphism with well-defined cell borders, ample granular cytoplasm, central round nucleus, and nuclear-cytoplasmic ratio of about 1/3. The ductule, indicative of hepatocellular-stromal interface restoration, consists of overlapping rows of small, ovoid, darkly-staining nuclei with nondiscernible cytoplasm. (Giemsa, ×400).</table>
