Advanced Piezoelectrics: Materials, Devices, and Their Applications

Description

After decades of research and development, piezoelectric materials have been applied in a wide range of applications from household appliances to the industrial equipments. In areas such as precision and acoustic engineering, piezoelectric material is no doubt one of the leading functional materials. This is attributed to their unique features and advantages such as wide operating frequency range, high force generation, high positioning sensitivity, and quick response. Today, due to the high demand, particularly from the electronic industries, the research and development on piezoelectric materials and devices have been motivated to grow tremendously and continuously. Faced with the current global sustainability challenges, effectiveness and efficiency have become the major focuses in piezoelectric materials research. On top of functionality, the new generation of piezoelectric devices should also possess the features of low power consumption, high efficiency and high power density, compact dimension, low cost, and being reliable and ecofriendly. These factors will become the major drivers and lead to the innovative development of the piezoelectric materials and devices in the near future.

We would to invite researchers to contribute original as well as review articles on the latest developments and novel applications of the piezoelectric materials and devices. The topics might include material synthesis, processing, characterization, device design, modeling, testing, and applications. We particularly welcome articles from energy harvesting, microfluidics, water treatment, nanotechnology, and lead-free piezoelectrics. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Latest development on piezoelectric ceramics, polymers, composites, single crystals
  • Piezoelectric thin film, nanomaterials, nanodevices, nanofabrication, nano- and microtechnology
  • Lead-free piezoelectrics
  • Piezoelectric theory, mechanism, modeling, and simulation
  • Piezoelectric MEMS (NEMS), design, modeling, fabrication, and applications
  • Piezoelectric actuators, motors, sensors, transformers, and transducers. The design, development, and applications
  • Piezoelectric energy harvesting, power generator, energy storage, wireless and self-powered devices
  • Piezoelectric fluid transfer, manipulation, microfluidics and piezoelectric pump development
  • Acoustic devices, sonochemistry, cleaning, and water treatment
  • Piezoelectric devices in biomedical applications
