The Carlsberg Meridian Circle in La Palma was amongst the first automated telescopes, something achieved in 1984. It was until recently operated jointly by the Copenhagen University Observatory, the Institute of Astronomy, Cambridge, and the Real Instituto y Observatorio de la Armada en San Fernando (ROA); however it is now run solely by the ROA.
