(a) illustrates the time dependence of the solutions 𝜒_𝑘 of (32) for a representative choice of parameters. The oscillatory behaviour at early times represents the adiabatic initial condition. At 𝑡=0 the effective frequency (33) varies nonadiabatically and the fluctuations get a “kick”. (b) plots the occupation number (35) for the same mode. No particles are present in the adiabatic in-going regime. This figure illustrates how the violations of adiabaticity at 𝑡=0 lead to production of 𝜒 particles.
