Seeking for the Leading Actor on the Cosmic Stage: Galaxies versus Supermassive Black Holes

Description

In the past decade, many discoveries such as the correlation between the mass of black holes and the large-scale properties of the host galaxy bulges revealed tight links between the growth of supermassive black holes (SMBHs) and galaxy evolution. This established the new paradigm that active galactic nuclei (AGN) are key players in the process of galaxy formation and evolution. However, the role that SMBHs play in shaping galaxies as well as the physical origin of this interdependence remains as major open questions in observational astrophysics, although important pieces of the puzzle have been established by recent large multiwavelength surveys and successful theoretical modeling.

The main focus of this special issue will be on the interplay between the galaxies and their central SMBHs across cosmic time. In this respect, we are seeking for the leading actor that shaped the cosmic structures as we see them today. This Special Issue is open also to review articles in addition to the original research articles. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • AGN/galaxy coevolution models
  • AGN host galaxy properties
  • The large-scale structure of AGN
