Advances in Computing and Engineering for Bionics and Medical Applications

Description

Recent advances in computational and bioimaging techniques have greatly enhanced the ability of engineers and scientists to better understand the physiology and functioning of humans and other living organisms. Specifically, progressive computational, mathematical, and physics-based approaches have helped researchers to develop sophisticated techniques that can solve technical and methodological issues encountered in the fields of bionics and biomechanics in engineering technology.

Bionics studies various special functions and characteristics of the biological mechanism, exploring the methods of imitating its characteristics and distinctive functions to be used in engineering technology. The improvements in advanced computing have led to important opportunities for bionics and medical applications, as well as new challenges and issues in counterbalance. Nevertheless, advanced computing and artificial intelligence are still considered one of the most promising development directions for bionics and medical applications, since advanced computing is widely applied to the prescriptive and predictive analytics of bionics and medical data.

Therefore, this Special Issue aims to collect original research articles and review articles that discuss advanced computing for bionics and medical applications in order to gain deeper insight into the advanced Information Technology (IT) approaches for addressing the challenges in this field. In this research, the expression ‘advanced computing’ is meant as the complete complement of capacities that support computational and data-intensive research across the entire scientific and engineering spectrum. For this reason, this Special Issue welcomes topics which until now were out of bounds to the computer scientist, but are now being faced using advanced computing science and engineering. Examples of interested areas are, for instance, natural language processing, soft computing, knowledge discovery, data mining & data warehousing, intelligent systems, internet & web technology, wireless & mobile computing, network security, high performance networking, cloud computing, image processing, program paradigms, multimedia & animation, open source computing, and big data analytics and engineering.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Information health
  • Multi-sensor integration
  • Signal processing
  • Soft computing
  • Knowledge discovery and big data
  • Artificial intelligence
  • Neural networks
  • Fuzzy logic and evolutionary algorithms
  • Machine learning
