Tests and Analyses of Slotted-In Steel-Plate Connections in Composite Timber Shear Wall Panels

Figure 14

Possible failure modes (a)–(f) for the slotted-in steel plate to PlyBoard panel connection. The force direction corresponds to vertical uplift and is parallel to the grain direction of the LVL core. In the case of horizontal shear the force acts perpendicular to the grain orientation of the LVL core, although the failure mode is principally the same. The influence of edge and end distances is not considered (it is assumed that the edge and end distances proposed in Section 4.7 are applied); the notation and data of the cross-sectional parameters of the PlyBoard test specimens are = board thickness (8 mm), = LVL thickness (26 mm), = slot thickness (4 mm), and = steel-plate thickness (3 mm).
