Advanced Infrastructure Systems Integrating Hardware and Software Platforms
Description
Transportation infrastructure is a basic need for business, travel, and daily life. Currently, pavement quality and traffic congestion are still the main problems for construction and maintenance. During the rapid development of transportation infrastructure in developing countries, the infrastructure building technologies and quality control are highly valued for industry and research areas. Simultaneously, the Cooperative Vehicle Infrastructure System (CVIS) is also focused to integrate into the infrastructure building and operations, and the universal automatic driving models help improve safety and efficiency. We need to conduct further research for the civil infrastructure by applying new materials, innovative management, or any other new emerging technologies.
We still face many challenges in the area of transportation engineering. During the construction and maintenance of transportation infrastructure, the improvement of pavement performance can be reached through the pavement structure, materials, and design. The progress of these three sections can be monitored and accelerated from the tests, models, and mechanics, as well as a summary of experience. In addition, traffic operation efficiency, safety, and energy-saving are still the main concerns for industry and research areas. Road Side Units (RSU) and mobile APP are commonly used to assist the infrastructure system, as well as other auxiliary facilities. Therefore, how to effectively and efficiently utilize these technologies and equipment remains a huge challenge.
The Special Issue will focus on the recent development of infrastructure technologies. This Special Issue aims to provide a platform for researchers to contribute original research articles as well as review articles that will contribute to the areas of transportation engineering.
Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:
- Advanced materials and structures for infrastructure construction and maintenance
- Simulations for structure and materials
- Recycling materials for infrastructures
- Highway operation mixed with platoon vehicle and connected automated vehicle
- Efficacy of connected/automated vehicle deployment strategies
- A reasonable route set between the two stations
