Leveraging Big Data in Construction Management
Description
The amount of data in our world has increased steadily due to fast-advancing technologies. The construction industry is no exception to this digital revolution. A significant amount of data is generated throughout the lifecycle of a building. Big data technology has broad applicability in many construction subdomains. Using big data technology, useful insights and knowledge can be generated from the data. The insights and knowledge can inform decision making, promoting efficient, safe, and sustainable construction processes.
With the maturation of technologies for collecting, storing, processing, and visualizing big data, utilising this rich data to optimise construction operations is a promising innovation in the industry. While there has been some research on big data solutions in the field of construction management, this multidisciplinary research area is still in its infancy.
This Special Issue aims to bridge the gap in the literature by attracting papers on leveraging big data to address construction management problems. We encourage submissions related to successful applications of big data in construction management and proposed data-driven solutions, such as applications of statistics, data mining, machine learning, data analytics, and artificial intelligence in construction labour productivity, workforce scheduling, health, safety and wellbeing of workers, facility management, energy management, and smart buildings. We also hope to attract review articles that describe the current state of the art. This Special Issue will engage technological, managerial, organizational, and methodological perspectives in the application of big data in construction management and is open to any subject area relevant to big data in construction.
Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:
- Big data with BIM
- Big data with IoT
- Big data with cloud computing
- Big data for smart buildings
- Big data for whole life of construction
- Big data in cost management
