Artificial Intelligence Applications in Civil Engineering 2020

Description

Artificial intelligence is used to develop machine elements that analyze the human's thinking system and reflect this in reality. In recent years, artificial intelligence has found a wide range of applications in solving small- and large-scale civil engineering problems, such as design, optimization, parameters estimation and identification, damage detection, etc. The increase in artificial intelligence studies shows that the use of artificial intelligence in civil engineering will increase in the coming years.

The focus of this Special Issue is on the applications of artificial intelligence approaches in different fields of civil engineering. For example, the minimization of total weight for a steel, concrete, and composite structure can be obtained, as well as genetic programming for large scale civil engineering problems. In addition, the estimation of energy consumption based on the available data can be obtained using artificial neural networks, and optimal work schedules for the activities of construction management can be made by using metaheuristic optimization algorithm.

We particularly welcome hybrid artificial intelligence studies in the fields of structural engineering, construction management, hydrology, hydraulic engineering, geotechnical engineering, environmental engineering, transportation engineering, coastal and ocean engineering, and materials of construction. In addition, review articles including applications of civil engineering using branches of artificial intelligence techniques (artificial neural networks, fuzzy systems, expert systems, swarm intelligence, etc.) are welcomed.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Application of hybrid artificial intelligence approaches for hydraulic problems
  • Using artificial neural networks for estimating the energy consumption obtained from dams and hydropower plants
  • Swarm intelligence for optimum weight of structures
  • Metaheuristic optimization algorithms in design optimization for 2D and 3D steel or concrete structure
  • Genetic programming for large scale civil engineering problems
  • Application of fuzzy logic in civil engineering problems
  • Machine Learning for mechanical problems in civil engineering
  • Optimization model for single and multi-objective solutions for construction management
