Application of Novel High-Tech Methods to Geological Hazard Research

Description

Catastrophic geological hazards such as landslides, rockfalls, avalanches, and mudslides have occurred frequently throughout the world. They are characterized by broad distributions, complex mechanisms, and serious effects which raise challenging issues. These hazards have therefore received much attention in scientific communities.

Research in this field is interdisciplinary, involving structural geology, engineering, geology, hazard geology, environmental geology, mathematical geology, instrument science, geographic information systems, remote sensing, statistical analysis, numerical calculation, and more. At present, this research is focused on the acquisition of observational data, mechanism analysis, monitoring and early warning, risk assessment models, and the application of high and new technologies. Applying state-of-the-art techniques and new methods to this area is highly important but is also as a major challenge.

The aim of this Special Issue is to collate research and review articles related to the rapid development of current information technology, artificial intelligence technology, spatial information acquisition technology, and others, and the frequent occurrence of catastrophic large-scale geological hazards in recent years.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Application of high-tech and new technologies to field reconnaissance of geological hazards
  • Rapid auto-extraction of data on regional geological hazards
  • Mechanisms of geological hazards
  • Numerical simulation methods applied to geological hazards
  • Mapping susceptibility, hazard, and assessment of geological hazards
  • Rainfall threshold and early warning for regional geological hazards
  • High-tech and new methods for early warning of individual geological hazards
  • High-tech and new methods for prevention and control of geological hazards
  • Geotechnical research on geological hazards
