Supplementary Material

A novel phosphors, ZnB4O7:Eu3+, with urchin like nano-structure consisting of radially arranged high density nanorods were synthesized by hydrothermal process. The nanorods are 200 to 400 nm in diameter while urchins are few μm to 40 μm. The phosphor exhibited bright orange-red luminescence excited by UV or blue light. High thermal stability and better absorbance cross-section than the commercial Y2O2S:Eu3+ red phosphor indicates better usefulness of it for UV or blue light excited LEDs.
