Light Field Control and All-Optical Information Processing from Metasurfaces and Metamaterials

Description

Over the past twenty years, metasurfaces and metamaterials have attracted attention for their novel electromagnetic properties and functionalities through tailoring subwavelength structures and integrating functional materials. The interplay between light and metasurfaces or metamaterials can potentially offer further advanced technologies towards producing unusual and exotic electromagnetic properties, manipulating light in innovative ways, and going beyond traditional research avenues. Although much progress has been achieved, extensive areas from light field control to all-optical information processing are still waiting to be explored fully.

This Special Issue welcomes contributions on the wide range of light field control and all-optical information processing from metasurfaces and metamaterials, novel optical phenomena, and advanced technologies based on specific periodic sub-wavelength structures, and nano/micro-fabrication techniques for structured metasurfaces and metamaterials devices. This Special Issue will also include computational numerical simulations in new type metasurfaces and metamaterials. Both research and review articles are welcome.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Novel optical phenomena of metasurfaces and metamaterials
  • New materials or structures applied in metasurfaces and metamaterials
  • Metasurfaces and metamaterials for light field control and beam shaping
  • Applications of metasurfaces and metamaterials in optical communications and all-optical information processing
  • Advanced fabrication techniques for metasurfaces or metamaterials
  • Computational optics based on sub-wavelength structure devices
