A Case of Thrombotic Thrombocytopenia Purpura Associated with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: Diagnostic Utility of ADAMTS-13 Activity

The clinical course in the present case. The patient was treated with intravenous administration with methylprednisolone (1000 mg/day for 3 days on the admission) followed by oral administration with prednisolone (50 mg/day). Daily plasma exchange and anticoagulant therapy was added on the second day. Plasma exchange was performed for 5 consecutive days and stopped at the sixth day of the admission. Subsequently, peripheral schistocytes diminished, her hemoglobin level and platelet count were improved, the complement level increased, the titer of anti-DNA antibody decreased, and the ADAMTS-13 activity increased. mPSL: methylprednisolone, and PSL: prednisolone.
