Overview of the method proposed in this article. Information from the background and signal models, as well as from the data, is combined into an estimate of the number of soft QCD particles across the particle () space inside each collision event, , under the assumption that the statistical fluctuations in the data are dominated by the fluctuations on the number of soft QCD particles.
