The Dependence of Northwest Pacific Tropical Cyclone Intensification Rates on Environmental Factors
Figure 2
The location distribution of (a) RI cases, (b) NI cases, and (c) SI cases. TC intensities over the Northwest Pacific basin are divided into five categories: tropical storm (TS, 17.2 m s−1 ≤ Vmax ≤ 24.4 m s−1), severe tropical storm (STS, 24.5 m s−1s ≤ Vmax ≤ 32.6 m s−1), typhoon (TY, 32.7 m s−1 ≤ Vmax ≤ 41.4 m s−1), strong typhoon (STY, 41.5 m s−1 ≤ Vmax ≤ 50.9 m s−1), and super typhoon (SuperTY, Vmax ≥ 51.0 m s−1).
