TC intensities over the Northwest Pacific basin are divided into five categories: tropical storm (TS, 17.2 m s⁻¹ ≤ V_max ≤ 24.4 m s⁻¹), severe tropical storm (STS, 24.5 m s⁻¹s ≤ V_max ≤ 32.6 m s⁻¹), typhoon (TY, 32.7 m s⁻¹ ≤ V_max ≤ 41.4 m s⁻¹), strong typhoon (STY, 41.5 m s⁻¹ ≤ V_max ≤ 50.9 m s⁻¹), and super typhoon (SuperTY, V_max ≥ 51.0 m s⁻¹).
