C57BL/6 mice were sensitized by single administration each of 500 µl BSA (0.5 mg ml−1) and 500 µl triple antigen containing 2 × 107 of Bordetella pertussis cells. Mice were treated daily for 10 days with either saline 10 ml kg−1, prednisolone 10 mg kg−1, or bergapten 3–30 mg kg−1 and challenged with 250 µl BSA (0.5 mg ml−1), i.p. 2 h after last treatment. Mortality was monitored for 1 h. Data were analyzed using the log-rank (Mantel–Cox) test, and survival rates were significant.
