Combination treatment with TGF-1 and IL-1 of A549 cells induces mesenchymal-like phenoptype. A549 cells following overnight serum starvation were treated with 10 ng/mL each of TGF-1 and IL-1 for 24 hours. Following which time, the cells were fixed, permeabilized, and stained with antibody against E-cadherin ((b) and (e)) and vimentin ((c) and (f)) and nuclei were counterstained using ,6-diamidino-2-phenylindole. Cells in (a) and (d) were photographed in a phase-contrast microscope. Scale bar: 10 m.
