DNA-binding dependent mechanisms. Mechanisms of p53-dependent repression which involve direct binding of p53 to the DNA. Binding of p53 to a new p53 binding element leading to direct transcriptional repression by p53 (panel I), displacement of other transcription factors due to overlapping DNA-binding sites (panel II) and concomitant binding of p53 and a second transcriptions factor with interaction of these two factors leading to repression of the gene (panel III) belong to this group.
