Construction and Characterization of an Infectious Murine Gammaherpesivrus-68 Bacterial Artificial Chromosome

The removal of the BAC insert restored the ability of MHV-68 to establish viral latency in the spleens of mice. Balb/c mice were infected with 20 PFU of each virus via intranasal inoculation. At day 14-15 after infection, the spleens were weighed and harvested for reactivation assays and quantification of viral DNA copy numbers. Each symbol represents the weight of the spleen (a), the number of infectious centers (b), and the viral DNA copies (c) of individual mice.
