Ginger extract modulates expression levels of the cell survival and cell-cycle regulators. The MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231 cells were incubated with the indicated concentrations of the ethanol extract of ginger for 24 h, then cells were harvested and assayed. (a) The total RNAs were isolated, reverse transcribed, and subjected to PCR with the gene-specific primers. The PCR products of the depicted genes were then subjected to electrophoresis in 1% agarose gel and visualized by EtBr staining. HPRT1 was used as the internal control. A typical result from three independent experiments is shown. (b) Cell lysates were examined for the displayed proteins by western blot as described in the Materials and methods. -actin was used as the internal control.
