Two patterns of Al-induced OA anion secretion can be identified on the basis of the timing of secretion. In Pattern I plants, no discernible delay is observed between the addition of Al and the onset of OA anion secretion. In Pattern II plants, OA anion secretion is delayed for several hours after exposure to Al.
