Effectiveness of Green Tea in a Randomized Human Cohort: Relevance to Diabetes and Its Complications

Table 2

Antioxidant activities of Mauritian green tea using a multiassay approach.

Antioxidant assaysAA50 (mg/mL)

ABTS radical scavenging assay0.01 ± 0.001a
FRAP assay0.04 ± 0.01b
Nitric oxide radical scavenging assay0.30 ± 0.01c
Ferrous ions chelating assay0.33 ± 0.03c,d
HOCL scavenging assay0.39 ± 0.03d,e
Superoxide radical scavenging assay0.42 ± 0.01e
DPPH radical scavenging assay0.52 ± 0.01f

Data are expressed as mean ± standard deviation ( ). Statistical analyses were performed, using independent samples t-test, for multiple comparisons. Different alphabetical superscripts between rows represent significant differences between mean AA50 ( ). AA50 was defined as Mauritian green tea concentration that revealed a 50% antioxidant activity.
