Table 2: Effect of NA-2 (5 mg/kg dose) on the time course of the development of disease reflected by decrease in body weight over a period of 22 days.

Experimental groupBody weight (in gms)/day of recording

Arthritic control *
Arthritis + indomethacin (5 mg/kg) **
Arthritis + NA-2 (5 mg/kg) #
NA-2 only (5 mg/kg)

The value in the table represents the mean ± SEM of 12 animals/group. A significant decrease in body weights from day 12 ( < 0.038) of arthritic animal compared to normal animals was observed till the end of experiment. Treatment with indomethacin significantly ( < 0.05) increases body weights compared to nontreated arthritic group from day 12 till the end of experiment. Treatment with NA-2 increases body weight of animals, but it shows significant increase (#P < 0.05) from day 18 compared to arthritic group.
