Sphingomyelinase Activity of Trichomonas vaginalis Extract and Subfractions

Figure 1

Subcellular distribution of T. vaginalis SMase activity. Shadowed and clear bars correspond to specific activity SMase (U SMase/mg/hr) assays with absence or presence of inhibitor p-chloromercuribenzoate, respectively. The total extract (TE) or the subcellular fractions P30 or S30 obtained from T. vaginalis trophozoites were evaluated. [14C]-sphingomyelin was used as the substrate for all assays. The products of the hydrolysis were [14C]-phosphorylcholine or [14C]-choline. Each bar represents the mean ± SE from three independent experiments performed in triplicates.
