Exercise Training Could Improve Age-Related Changes in Cerebral Blood Flow and Capillary Vascularity through the Upregulation of VEGF and eNOS

Figure 8

Effect of exercise training on the level of endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) in the brain microvessels of sedentary-young (SE-Young), sedentary-aged (SE-Aged), immersed-aged (IM-Aged), and trained-aged (ET-Aged) rats. Both the SE-Aged and IM-Aged groups had significantly lower eNOS levels ( and  pg/mg protein, resp.) compared to the SE-Young group (  pg/mg protein). The eNOS level in the ET-Aged group (  pg/mg protein) was significantly increased when compared with the IM-Aged group (  pg/mg protein). , significantly different from the SE-Young group. , significantly different from the IM-Aged group.
