Parkia biglobosa Improves Mitochondrial Functioning and Protects against Neurotoxic Agents in Rat Brain Hippocampal Slices

Figure 4

Attenuation of membrane lipid peroxidation in hippocampal cells by PBE and catechin. Hippocampal brain slices were preincubated with P. biglobosa extract, PBE (25, 50, 100, or 200 g/mL), or catechin (1, 5, or 10 g/mL) for 30 min before final incubation with toxicants (SNP, , or ) for 1 h. Thiobarbituric acid reactive species (TBARs) were quantified in slices homogenate and used as index of membrane lipid peroxidation. Data are expressed as mean ± SEM of three independent experiments. #, ##, and ### versus untreated slices (control) and , , and versus slices treated with toxicants (SNP, , or ) alone, as determined by one-way ANOVA followed by the Newman-Keuls multiple comparison test.
