Nuclear changes revealed by Hoechst 33342/PI (×100). Apoptosis occurred in % of the normal control cells and %, %, and % of the cells treated with 50 mM (24, 48, and 72 h, resp.). Cells were shrunken and rounded and contained lunate or “horse-shoe” like nuclei (characteristic of apoptosis) with condensed chromatin.
