Animal Model of Acid-Reflux Esophagitis: Pathogenic Roles of Acid/Pepsin, Prostaglandins, and Amino Acids

Effects of various NSAIDs on acid-reflux esophagitis in rats. Esophagitis was induced by ligation of both the pylorus and forestomach, and animals were killed 4 h later. Indomethacin (a nonselective CO inhibitor), SC-560 (a selective COX-1 inhibitor), or rofecoxib (a selective COX-2 inhibitor) was given i.d. at a dose of 5 mg/kg 30 min before the double ligation. Data are presented as the mean ± SE for 5~7 rats. *Significantly different from the control, at (from [16] after modifications).
