Cigarette Smoke-Exposed Candida albicans Increased Chitin Production and Modulated Human Fibroblast Cell Responses

Chitin content in the nonexposed and CSC-exposed C. albicans. The glucosamine released from the purified cell walls following acid hydrolysis was quantified and expressed as a percentage of cell wall dried weight. Data presented are from four independent assays performed in triplicate. Significance at was determined by comparing the nonexposed and CSC-exposed yeast cells.
