Regions from central-coiled domains of two filaments are interacting. (b) Representation of K18 caspase-cleavage sites during apoptosis. Keratin network regulates apoptotic machinery and confers a caspase-activation. The primary caspase-targets in epithelial cells are found in keratins type I family (reproduced from [2]).
