Interleukin-1 β Modulates Melatonin Secretion in Ovine Pineal Gland: Ex Vivo Study

Figure 4

The effects of norepinephrine (NE, 10 μM), interleukin- (IL-) 1β (75 pg/mL), and mixture of NE with IL-1β on the poly(A) tail length of mRNAs encoding arylalkylamine-N-acetyltransferase (AA-NAT) and hydroxyindole-O-methyltransferase (HIOMT) in the pineal gland explants collected from saline- and lipopolysaccharide- (LPS-) treated ewes. M: DNA ladder M50pz, numbers indicate each experimental group: (1) control, (2) NE, (3) IL-1β, and (4) NE + IL-1β. The minimum expected size of AA-NAT and HIOMT, amplified products, was 244 bp (209 bp of AA-NAT 3′ end + 35-bp oligo(dT)-anchor) and 373 bp (338 bp of HIOMT 3′ end + 35-bp oligo(dT)-anchor), respectively.
