Comparison of Monkeypox Virus Clade Kinetics and Pathology within the Prairie Dog Animal Model Using a Serial Sacrifice Study Design

MPXV challenged prairie dog viremia. Groups of prairie dogs were serially sacrificed (days 2, 4, 6, 9, 12, 17, and 24) following intranasal challenge (8 × 103 pfu) with West African (a) or Congo Basin (b) MPXV. Viremia was determined by viral DNA in blood samples. Only blood from prairie dogs 21 and 32 was positive for viable virus (VV) (1.8 × 106 pfu/mL and 2 × 106 pfu/mL, resp.). Values are shown as DNA (fg/μL) on a log scale.
