Ginsenoside Rg1 Attenuates Cigarette Smoke-Induced Pulmonary Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transition via Inhibition of the TGF-β1/Smad Pathway

Inhibition of Smad2 and Smad3 abrogated the ginsenoside Rg1-mediated effect on CSE-induced EMT in HBE cells. HBE cells were pretreated with or without SB525334 (3 μM) for 60 min and then stimulated with 10% CSE and cultured with or without ginsenoside Rg1 (40 μM) for 48 h. Protein expressions of E-cad and α-SMA were determined by Western blot. Data were expressed as the mean ± SD; . Statistical significance was assessed by one-way ANOVA and Tukey’s post hoc test. versus Sham group; versus CSE group. and versus CSE + Rg1 + SB525334 group.
