Tempol, a Superoxide Dismutase Mimetic Agent, Inhibits Superoxide Anion-Induced Inflammatory Pain in Mice

Tempol inhibits KO2-induced hyperalgesia and paw edema. Mice were treated with tempol (10–100 mg/kg) or vehicle 40 min before KO2 intraplantar injection. Nociceptive thresholds to mechanical (a) and thermal (b) stimuli as well as paw edema (c) were measured 1–5 h after KO2 injection. Results are expressed as means ± SEM ( per group per experiment, representative of two separate experiments) [ versus saline; versus KO2 + vehicle; versus KO2 + tempol 10 mg/kg; versus KO2 + tempol 30 mg/kg (ANOVA followed by Tukey’s -test)].
