Effects of tar-exo-enkephalin on neuronal density in the post-ischemic brain. Rats were treated with enkephalin-exo or enkephalin-tar-exo at 2 h after tMCAO. Cresyl violet and NeuN (green) were used to stain neurons in the brain sections. At 1 week and 3 weeks after treatment with these vesicles, representative images and quantification showed the number and density of neuron in the ischemic core (a, c) and boundary zone (b, d).
